History

FreshPolitik is a student initiative project. At the beginning of the year 2008 a group of students of Political Science from the University of Barcelona considered the creation of a platform for the exchange of ideas and analysis on politics from a multidisciplinary overview. Conscious of the European context in which the denominated Europe of Knowledge was outlined as a priority for the continental university system, FreshPolitik was born as an online magazine on politics written by and for students.

The initiative arose when observing that in the general dynamics of Spanish higher education there was no established minimum level of quality for the student’s work. Excellence was treated like an exception and not like a phenomenon that could become generalized and grow between the student body. FreshPolitik intends to change this reality understanding that the publication of the best works written by students is a useful tool to increase the academic level.

The most important characteristic of FreshPolitik is that it has the potential to become a point of reference that will extend the resources for learning. Because each classroom is a closed universe and the academic experiences that happen there are ignored by all those who are not present. Because, in fact, most of the student academic experience doesn’t even transcend the borders of the private relationship between the student and professor.

For all this, FreshPolitik, aside from being a magazine that will deal with contemporary political and academic issues, will also be, in the long term, an online library of well elaborated papers that will develop a multiplicity of topics related to politics, from a student academic view. The desired level will be renewed publication after publication, and will increase progressively from a basis of trustworthy, systematized and well written accumulated knowledge. Both professors and students can access the same information knowing that both groups have that possibility and that therefore it is not material that can be plagiarized without assuming a high risk of institutional imputation.
FreshPolitik offers students from any university and professionals of any scope, a space to write on politics from a critical point of view. Avoiding the manifestation of partisan ideals, FreshPolitik welcomes anything from academic essays to artistic expressions. All this with the aim of serving fresh politics from different points of view.
